In January of 2017, Carol sent the first message to Jeff on Coffee Meets Bagel because she liked his goofy smile and sporty vibes. Jeff replied to that message because — well, a girl finally messaged him.

Despite some generational differences in emoji usage and no clear overlapping hobbies, they nonetheless agreed to meet in person.

On their first date, Carol’s impression of Jeff was that of a nerdy but athletic tech bro. He spoke fondly of his backpacking trip in Iceland with no access to a functional shower for weeks. Carol nodded politely and mentally noted his hygiene standards.

Jeff’s initial impression of Carol was that she dressed a bit fobby, and was surprised when she didn’t have an accent. However — he did notice she drove a Mercedes to their date but didn’t attempt to split the check.

They went on a second date, then a third, and then Carol stored her stuff in his apartment in between leases and never moved out.

Carol and Jeff have both changed each other drastically. Jeff showed Carol the joys of leaving the house, whether it be gymming, rock climbing, or playing ping pong. Meanwhile, Carol reintroduced Jeff to the joys of degeneracy, such as sleeping in, eating ice cream for dinner, and pulling all nighters to play video games.

Although they have their little quibbles here and there, like when Carol’s snacks vanish into thin air before she opens them, or when Jeff takes the blame for losing a ranked game when Carol was the one feeding, these hiccups make things more interesting, if not, fun.

To this day, we’re still not sure why Jeff likes Carol. However, we can likely infer that Jeff thinks Carol introduces a spark of spontaneity to his day to day life. (His exact words were that Carol is "wildly unpredictable”, and she could “wake up at 6am to make breakfast one day, or sleep until 2pm the next”, but we believe “spontaneous” was the word he was looking for).
